With the help of Gizmo, Nex’s robotic companion, students serve as translators, helping Nex by decoding and translating root words into English.
Each mission takes students to a different planet, where they encounter alien species that speak in Proto-Lexis. The aliens give students root words, and the students must type the correct English meanings into a tablet provided by Gizmo. The words are provided in a random order to keep the experience fresh and challenging. If a student gets a word wrong, they’re given an example of the word in use (e.g., if the root word is "bi," they are shown the word “bicycle”) to help them understand the meaning. Students have as many attempts as they need to get the correct translation, ensuring that they learn at their own pace.
As the school year progresses, additional root words will be introduced, and more planets will be visited. This gradual increase in vocabulary and the introduction of new challenges keep students engaged and motivated throughout the year.
Students are motivated to perform well by earning Galactic Points and badges based on their accuracy. They can earn one of three badges: Galactic Novice (<50% accuracy), Proto-Lexis Explorer (51-99% accuracy), or the coveted Expert Translator (100% accuracy).
